3D Animation Course (Maya + ZBrush + Substance Painter)

This is an 8-month complete 3D animation course designed to teach students the entire 3D production pipeline using Autodesk Maya, ZBrush, and Substance Painter. The course is structured in three levels:
Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced, focusing on Modeling, Sculpting, Texturing, Rigging, Animation, Lighting, and Rendering.

Basic Level (Months 1-2): 3D Foundations & Essentials

 

  1. INTRODUCTION to the 3D PIPELINE    (Week 1-2):
    a)  Overview of the 3D Animation Pipeline
    b) Interface navigation in Maya, ZBrush & Substance Painter
    c) Project setup and scene organization
  2. HARD SURFACE MODELING – Maya      (Week 3-5)
    a) Modeling tools: Extrude, Bevel, Bridge, Insert Edge Loop
    b) Creating objects: chair, sword, crate
    c) Topology and edge flow
  3. UV UNWRAPPING – Maya                             (Week 6-7)
    a) Understanding UVs and texture coordinates
    b) Layout optimization
  4. BASIC TEXTURING – Substance Painter (Week 8)
    a) Smart materials and basic textures
    b) PBR workflow

Intermediate Level (Months 3-5): Sculpting, Organic Modeling & Animation

5. SCULPTING – ZBrush (Week 9-11)

     a) Dynamesh and subdivision
     b) Sculpting anatomy basics: head, hands, torso

6. RETOPOLOGY & UV – Maya + ZBrush              (Week 12-13)
     a) ZRemesher and manual retopo
     b) Multi-UDIM setup

7. TEXTURING ORGANIC MODELS – Substance Painter (Week 14-15)
     a) Painting realistic skin, cloth
     b) Hand painting vs smart materials

8. RIGGING BASICS – Maya (Week 16-17)
     a) IK/FK, Skin binding

9. BODY MECHANICS ANIMATION – Maya      (Week 18-20)
     a) Walk/run cycles, weight and balance

Advanced Level (Months 6-8): Acting, Lighting & Final Project

 

10. FACIAL ANIMATION & LIP SYNC – Maya    (Week 21-22)

         a) Expressions and dialogue syncing
11. LIGHTING & LOOK DEV – Maya with Arnold (Week 23-24)
         a) Lighting setups and HDRI
12. RENDERING & COMPOSITING – Maya + AE/Nuke (Week 25-26)
         a) AOV passes, compositing basics
13. FINAL SHORT FILM PROJECT (Week 27-32)
         a) Full production pipeline execution
         b) Showreel and portfolio presentation
